The I-Popper Light Up T-Shirts utilize
electroluminescent technology. The unique construction and performance characteristics of electroluminescence
yield a flexibility, durability, and interactivity that goes far
beyond that of traditional light sources.
Imagine taking a neon sign and turning it into virtually unbreakable
plastic that remains cool to the touch no matter how long it's on.
Now flatten the neon tubes into strips of light as thin as a postcard,
then cut, color, shape, bend, and wrap the light in any way you
like. Next, animate the art with as many lighting sequences as the
design requires, and, if you like, add motion-activated audio. Finally,
embed or attach the design into virtually any material or surface.
Fabrication ideas include: Light Up T-Shirts, Light Up Backpacks,
Light Up Purses, Light Up Furniture, and more... That is the level
of flexibility that Electroluminence offers.
Working EL lamps have been available for over 40 years. The ability
to mass-produce lamps that are inexpensive and reliable is a recent
development. Traditional EL production relied on silkscreen printing,
a relatively slow, labor intensive means of production. Utilizing
a roll-to-roll technology adapted from the printing industry that
is as much as 75% more efficient than the silkscreen method, Highly
Graphic is now able to make EL lamps that are affordable and reliable.
This process not only reduces the cost of EL lamps dramatically,
but also delivers other important advantages:
• Highest efficiency and long lamp life.
• Lower tooling costs.
• Thin construction up to 40% thinner than other EL lamps.
• Superior environmental performances
• Wide choice of electrical contact methods.
• Unmatched quality and uniformity resulting from continuous
production methods. |
While EL lamps cannot provide the full spectrum of colors directly,
it is possible to create virtually any color by manipulating a white
EL lamp with the colors on the graphic overlay.
Photoluminescent pigments are non-toxic and are listed as being
in full compliance with federal OSHA Hazard Communications Standards.

The Electroluminescent Advantage
Electroluminescent (EL) Lamps provide unbeatable design
advantages. Their unique construction and performance characteristics
yield a flexibility of use that is far beyond the capability of
ordinary lamps. Some examples of such differences follow:
Extremely Thin.
Constructed on film, EL lamps can be as thin as 0.008 inches, allowing
them to provide light while using a minimum of space.
Amazingly Flexible.
EL lamps can bend to conform to a product's shape and even operate
while being flexed. No other man-made source of light is more rugged.
Virtually Shock-Proof.
Unlike other light sources, EL lamps are not subject to shattering
or catastrophic failure.
Energy Efficient
Electroluminescence can be achieved with very little electric power.
Their extremely low power draw makes EL lamps an ideal choice when
efficiency is a concern.
Easy on the Eyes
EL's soft, yet vibrant light is non-glare inducing. Like the difference
between moonlight and sunlight, EL lighting is enticing and does
not strain the eyes like most other light sources.
Cool to the Touch
EL lamps operate at a lower temperature than do other lamps, even
fluorescents. This feature enables them to avoid problems associated
with heat build-up.
Available in Virtually Any Color.
In addition to coming ready-made in a wide variety of colors, EL
lamps can also be combined with graphic overlays to illuminate virtually
any hue. This is a tremendous advantage over traditional light sources,
as it allows Highly Graphic to accurately reproduce the colors of
any company's logo or character and meet licensors' stringent style
guidelines.
