Many people think of the martini as a snooty, upper
class drink, mostly consumed by high-fallooting socialites
who sit around in smoking jackets and discuss the
latest jazz musicians in a smoky bar. A lot of us
think of the martini as dean martin's signature beverage
of choice, when swinging crooners would clutch their
cocktails in their hand as they sang a sultry song.

Glasses Tips
This beautifully made drink is often accented
by a single olive (or sometimes a cherry),
although today there are tons of new spins
on this classic cocktail including an appletini
(made with apple flavored liquors), and even
a chocolate martini which is gaining in popularity
as a dessert drink. In reality, the martini
was first created in the 1800's (although
this is up for debate) with what's known as
aromatic bitters. Today, gin or dry vermouth
is the frontrunner of all the ingredients
that go into this posh punch. The glasses
that hold these swinging drinks have a very
distinct shape, usually that of an inverted
triangle, with a slightly thicker stem. The
martini's popularity continues to grow as
merchandisers are selling glasses with every
theme imaginable under the sun. Some people
even collect these vessels and keep them on
display as a symbol of their passion for this
ingenious drink. Although in years past the
martini was considered a beverage designed
only for those with privilege, it is now quickly
becoming one of the most commonly consumed
cocktails of the club and party scene. There
are new twists to this classic drink; namely
the light up martini glass! This glass puts
off a bright light that is encased inside
it, and gives the everyday martini a special
flare and a dash of fun. You may see patrons
at the club drinking their metropolitan in
a lit up container of color! These wonderfully
wacky glasses are becoming a hit at modern
venues all over the world, and add to the
martini's unbridled success.
